Wow this week went by so fast!! … It’s scary how time flies!! Here’s a rundown of my week!
Prepared People! – One of my favorite things in the mission is when you find someone that is just waiting to hear the restored gospel! This past week we contacted Hermana Alejandra. Her dad is a member and even though he is 98 years old he travels more than 40 min to come to church every Sunday! As we began our lesson with her, we found out that she had met with missionaries before and had heard a lot about the church but had never felt the desire to join the Church. As we continued our conversation she told us that she feels that in this moment in her live she needs more, she needs the gospel, and she’s ready to commit to changing her life… In this moment my companion and I were just overwhelmed with the Spirit and the knowledge that the Lord truly prepares people to recieve the message that we share!! Even greater than her words were her actions… this Sunday as we were running from house to house to invite everyone to come to Church we saw hermana Alejandra in her church close closing up her store so that she could come to Church. Naturally we stopped to talk and ended up going to church together! It was the best feeling ever riding in the moto-taxi with her as she made the first step in following Christ.
Answers to Prayers: Another amazing moment happened with Brinda!! Brinda is 14 years old and we’ve been teaching her for about 3-4 weeks! As we were finishing our lesson we asked her if she had recieved an answer to her prayers about whether or not the Book of Mormon was true…. She paused for a moment and then said… I prayed about it, and I recieved an answer, a beautiful conformation that the Book of Mormon is true!…now I know.. I know without a doubt that the Book of Mormon is true!! Wow! When she told us this my companion and I were just beaming!! It wasn’t us that had converted her, it never is the missionaries…. but it was the Holy Ghost… the True teacher. It is amazing when our investigators recieve their own answers and their own testimony …. that in itself- the answers and feelings of the spirit- are a confirmation that the work that we do is true and valuable. That God loves us and answers our prayers!!!
I love this work and I feel so blessed to be serving here in Peru…. even though it is about a million degrees right now!!! haha The people here are amazing and I just love all the members in Cañete! The branch is small, but the members here are dedicated and they love the Lord and are prepared to do all they can to serve him!
Love you all so much!!!
Here are some of the highlights from this week!!!
San Juan and the Holy Ghost!! — As I was waiting for my companion to arrive from the ccm! I got the chance to work with the Hermanas in Lima, in San Juan! It was so much fun and so cool to go back to some of the areas I had done intercambios before! One of the funniest moments of the night was when my companion found a white little bird outside of one of the houses…. she was super worried that it was sick and didn’t have an owner so she decided to take it with us as we finished up our lessons for the night…. obviously, because I do NOT LIKE BIRDS. I told her it probably wasn’t the best idea to put the bird in her backpack..- but she did said it would be fine and not to worry…… as we were finishing up our last lesson of the night about baptism and the holy ghost, the bird escaped from her backpack and started flying rapidly around the apartment…. I almost died… my companion was trying to catch it and the investigator was running around trying to close all the windows so it couldn’t escape…. we all had a good laugh afterwards as talked about how that was the best Holy Ghost object lesson we’d ever seen!
My new Companion!! – My new companion is Hermana Araujo! She is from Iquitos and she is so great!!! It’s crazy how each companion we have is truly done by inspiration! As we were learning a bit more about each other, she began to tell me about how her mom was gravely ill before the mission and she had a really hard time deciding to come on the mission. As I reflected on her experiences I began to understand more clearly why the Lord put us together… A few days later when I told her about my Dad and my experiences with coming back after his death my companion started bawling and told me that now she knew for certain the Lord was mindful of her and knew her needs as a new missionary!… Wow! How amazing is it that the Lord knows what we need before we do!!
the Advantages of Doctors Appointments…- This week I had to go to Lima because I had some problems with my toe, but after talking to my old companion, Hna. Ramirez. I discovered that my convert Hermana Rocio would be going to the Temple sometime this week! After careful planning I decided to ask President if he would give me the permission to go to the temple with Rocio…. after a moment of thinking he quitely told me… “Hermana Hansen, you know the rules, if you’re not in Lima you can’t go to the temple with your converts, but…. if you are going to be in Lima for your toe….. I guess you could pass by the temple….” Truly, it was such a blessing because the moment I saw Rocio I started to tear up and she started to tear up and it was just so amazing to see her ready to enter the temple!!! After talking for a bit she told me that this was truly an answer to her prayers and that seeing me and remembering the feelings that she had during all of our lessons was something that she needed in this moment in her Life!! Wow!!! The Lord knows us and knows what we need!!! And seeing Rocio at the temple ready to enter to do her family history was one of the greatest opportunities!!!
I love this work and I know that this church is true!!! That life is hard, but through this gospel, through the hope that we have through Christ, Everything is possible!!!
Love you all!
Hola Familia!!!Wow this week went by so fast!!!!Cambios!! Today we had transfers!! I will still be in Cañete, but I will be recieving a new comapnion tomorrow!!! Wooo hoo! I’m a trainer again!! It is always so funny when we recieve our phone call with our cambios because we always try and guess beforehad what will happen….And the funny thing is normally we are right!! haha my comp had guessed that I would train and I had guessed she would go to Ayucucho… and that is exactly what happened! haha It was so sad saying goodbye to Hermana Saucedo but I’m excited to meet my new companion!!Finding People!!- This week we really focused on doing all that we could to find new peope to teach!! One of these new investigators was a family!! Rosa and Victor! We found Rosa through a ref. of a member, but we soon discovered that she has a son (10 years old) who is a member!! As we began teaching them it became so apparent that they had been prepared to listen to our message!!… it is so amazing how we find people like Rosa and Victor everyday. People that are truly interested and waiting to hear the restored gospel!Service Activity! – This past week we had a service activity with Branch! We walked along the street picking up trash around the Market in our area! Wow…. there was SO MUCH TRASH…. really though it was pretty incredible! But it was also so cool to see how people were so shocked that we would walk through Mercado picking up trash! We even had some people who took pictures of us and others that stopped us to tell us that they were touched that someone would try to clean up and beautify their neighborhood!! It was cool to see how acts of service truly demonstrate love and kindness… They are the things that you don’t have to do, but you do them because you care! Because you have “Hope for a better world”… Ether 12:4 –I love this gospel and feel so blessed to be here sharing the Hope that I have for a better world! I love this gospel and I know that it is true!!love you all!!Hermana Hansen
This week went by as fast as the rest!!! I can’t believe that this is the last week of the transfer and I will probably have a new companion next week!!! Ahhhh Okay! Here is a rundown of what happened this week!
Lunahuana!! – This week as hermanas we went to this little pueblito called Lunahuana! we had heard that it was super cool and touristy so we went to go check it out! haha apparently we hadn’t done enough research because once we arrived we could only find a sign that said Lunahuana and a River with pretty awesome playground! It was great to see a bit more of the countryside of Peru and we also got to take fun photos! My favorite moment was when we asked a woman to take our photo and she full’on had a photo shoot with us arranging our pose on the rocks and having us stick out our arms… haha (see photo for the illustration) haha it was pretty funny!
Miracles!- We have this one investigator named Eusebia! She is amazing and has such a desire to follow Christ and be Baptized! The only problem is that she only works on Sundays! And with new problems arising in her home, the work that she has, and the money that she recieves on sunday is crucial for her family. Throughout all the lessons she has progressed so much, but the most miraculous was during our lesson on tithing. My companion and I were a bit scared to teach this principle as money is really tight for here at this moment… but decided to leave a chapter in the Book of Mormon that mentions tithing so she could begin to think about it.. I testify that the Lord answers prayers because as we began to teach the lesson (a little nervous to introduce the topic I might add..) she asked right away about tithing and commited to paying her tithing without hesitation! Furthermore, this Sunday after countless lessons on the importance of Church on Sundays and the Sacrament…. and countless weeks of Eusebia having to work… She Came! She arrived right in time to take the sacrament!! What was even more miraculous is that she brought her tithing too!! Even though she only stayed for the first hour, it was such an amazing experience for my companion and I to see the changes that are taking place in the life of hermana Eusebia!
I think that has to be one of the most amazing things we witness in the mission… CHANGE. We as missionaries get to see people changing their lives and growing closer to Christ in the process. And not only do we witness change, but we as missionaries change also… we become more aware of the important things in life, we see people with eyes of what they can become and through this vision we have a stronger more profound understanding of what we can become too!!
I love this work and I feel so blessed to be able to serve as a missionary and change my life as well as the lives of others!!
Have an amazing week!!
