Week 29

WOW! This week was wonderful!!!! Here’s a little run’down of what happened this past week!!!

Christmas!!!- Christmas was so wonderful!!! In Peru, the 24th is when people really celebrate so it was fun to see all the commotion and excitement getting ready for the big day!!! As a Zone we got to watch Frozen and then because we Live with the Bishop, we got special permission to spend Christmas Eve with the Bishop and his family! His daughter was in town from the Bay Area…. Crazy right?? And so it was fun to talk to them in English and tell them a little about the Church since they are not members!!! It was super nice though because we got to do sparklers with all the kids and sing a few christmas songs together!! The Only sad thing is in Peru everyone eats a big turkey dinner at 12 midnight and they watch all the fireworks as they eat! But, we only had permission to be out of our room until 11:30 pm so we had to listen to all the fireworks going off, but we couldn’t see them!!! But it was all okay because the Bishop brought us the Turkey dinner to our room so we could enjoy the “real Peruvian Christmas meal” haha It was Delicious!!!
Inspired Lessons- Christmas Day we had a Breakfast and Lesson with the entire Reyes Family! We decided to do an activity where we talked about Christ, like attributes and had each family member pick one out of a stocking and talk about it! Wow… it was so amazing because each member of the Family recieved the quality that they needed to develop most, seriously , it was crazy!!! Both my companion and I were blown away by how the hand of the Lord is truly in everything and how each lesson we are given the opportunity to help our Investigators grow in the ways that they need the most!!
Rocio’s Baptism- Wow!!! What an amazing Day!! The 27th Rocio was finally Baptized!!! Ahhh it was so amazing to be there and share this wonderful day with her!! One of my favorite moments was during the Musical Number. We had decided that we would sing “How Great Thou Art” because it was her father’s favorite song. As we began to sing the Spirit filled the room and the feelings of peace and love were so strong I had tears in my eyes and I could see Rocio was crying too… The week before she had been talking about how she was so sad that her father wasn’t here to see her baptism, that she felt guilty that she only took this step in her life after he died, but what we explained and truly came to know was that her father is with in every step of this journey. And when we sang that song, we truly felt the truthfulness of that…. that really her father was not only present in her baptism, but was filled with joy in her decision to be baptized!

Week 28

Wow… okay this week went by so fast!! It’s also been a bit bittersweet because it has been the last week in the mission for my companion hna. Holbrook!! She will be going home today!!!! ahhhh it was so sad and I’m dreading having to say goodbye!!!

Birthday!! – My birthday was amazing!! Thanks for all the birthday emails!! I loved them all!! For my birthday my whole zone ate at papa johns which is the best pizza in peru!! Then we had our normal appointments in the afternoon!! It was really sweet because at our last appointment of the day with our investigator, Rocio, she had invited a bunch of members and had bought me a giant birthday cake! It was so sweet!!! The cake was delish, and it was pretty funny because the name on the cake read.. “Hansel” haha. No but honestly it was such an amazing birthday and just made me even that more grateful that I am still in this area with these members.
Temple!! – This week we had the opportunity to go to the temple with one of our recent converts Madeline who had the opportunity to be baptized for her grandma and be present for the baptism of her husband! Her husband Died a year ago on the 8th so she had been waiting for a year to go to the temple to do the work for him. As we all stood in the Baptismal font, the spirit was so strong and Madeline was overwhelmed with the reality that she would see her husband again. It was such a sweet moment and it really made me reflect on the importance of Family History and how powerful families really are!!
Coincidences- It  never ceases to amaze me how the Lord Truly puts people into our paths everyday! This last week we met two new investigators- Israel, whose mother just died about 3 months ago, and Jose, whose father and wife died about a year ago– as I sat in both of the lessons all I could think about was how well the Lord knows us and our lives. Sharing my testimony about my father… and sharing the Scripture I read at my father’s funeral – Mosiah 16.9 I felt the spirit testifying so strongly that this is true… that there is life after death… and I have no doubt that we will be united with our loved ones once more.

Emails- This week I got an email from Bishop Beckstead asking me to share my testimony of Christ…. It was so fun to really think about what Christ means to me…
 Mosiah 16- 9

In this Scripture We learn that Jesus Christ is the Light and that through him there is no more death. I testify of this, I know that Christ came to this earth in humble circumstances, he ministered among the people and taught his brothers and sisters how we can return to the prescence of our father, he suffered in the garden of gethsemene and on the cross- feeling every pain, sickness, and trial in the world, and after three days he was ressurrected. And because he was ressurrected- each one of us will live again, with our families. This has become one of my favorite scriptures in the last month because I love the reference to Jesus Christ as the Light and the Life of the World.- because truly Jesus Christ is the Light, …. he is the light that guides us back to our Father in Heaven, The Light that brightens our days with happiness, The light of hope that we can move forward when it seems as if we are stuck, the Light that illuminates our ability to have eternal families …. He is The Light. Everytime I look at the christmas lights that are outside every house I think about Christ and how because of him, I will live with my family for eternity. I know these things are true. In the name of Jesus Christ AMEN!!
…. for those of you who are in my ward, sorry you have to hear it twice… haha
Christmas!!– Everyones starting to get so excited about Christmas and it’s been so fun to be a missionary right now!! Especially with the “He is the Gift” Campaign! Seriously!!! It is such an amazing video and message that Jesus Christ is Our Gift and all we really have to do is Acept Him and Share the Knowledge that  we have!! I testify of this and invite you all to check out the Video and Forward it to a friend today!!
love you all!
xoxo Hermana Hansen

Week 27

WOW ! This week has truly been amazing!! Here are some highlights!!

Funny Happenings– This week we’ve had a lot of “Language Laughs” …. As a trainer I’m always trying to explain things about our area so that if I leave this next transfer she will know where is dangerous or who lives where, etc. As we were passing one of the more dangerous streets, I was trying to explain that they dealt drugs there at night, but instead I told my companion…. ” We deal drugs here at night….” She looked at me for a second suprised and then started cracking up…. it was so funny! Oopsies!!! Another moment was when we were listening to one of my Christmas CD’s …. after a bit my companion asked us what “No Well” meant because she was so confused as to why it was sung all the time in Christmas songs…!! We had a good laugh about that too!!
Birthday Problems! It’s been so fun to be in the same area for 5 months!! Especially because I get to celebrate my Birthday and Christmas here!! One of the hermanas that accompanies us always was so cute and stood up in Church to let everyone know that it was my Birthday Tomorrow and that they should make sure to say hi to me! Haha as a result I had all the women in the ward come up to me and give me great big hugs and tell me how much I meant to them!!! It made me realize how blessed I am to be serving in this area with these amazing and wonderful members!! I love each and every one of them!! Wow!! My companions have also been amazing in celebrating my birthday! While I was in the Shower they had decorated my desk for me …. but that is not all, as I was looking at my desk all decorated they jumped out at me and sprayed me with silly string…. haha to say it was a suprise would be an understatement!
Investigators of Gold! Wow!! This week we have really seen amazing progression in each and every one of the people that we have been teaching!!!! Rocio, the daughter of Cesar, Bore her testimony this week saying that she was 100% sure that this is the true church and that she cannot wait to be baptized. I think that was one of the most amazing moments! As she shared her testimony, I thought back to the first time we had a lesson with her- she had faith but she hadn’t had this drive to really Follow Christ….. But now… she can’t stop talking about her faith and desire to truly accept Christ in her life!! It’s amazing how when we really put Christ as a priority in our lives and strive to get to know him, to have faith in him, to Love him…. we grow in our faith and we grow in our knowledge. Rocio is so amazing and I feel so blessed that I have had the opportunity to teach her and help her discover the peace and comfort that the gospel of Jesus Christ truly brings us.

It brings me so much joy to be here in Peru, helping others find this Happiness and Peace that every human being strives to find and cultivate.

Love you All so much!!!

Week 26

Hola Familia!!!

Happy Thanksgiving!!!! It’s a bit ironic because here there is no Thanksgiving!! haha We actually forgot it was Thanksgiving until about 8:30 at night- so we all bought alfajores and said what we were thankful for!!! Okay so Here is a rundown of what happened this week!
Language Barrier: I think I had forgotten how difficult it can be to speak Spanish at times…. Haha for example as we were walking outside in the bright… and I mean bright sun… I attempted to ask my companion if there was a specific reason that sunglasses weren’t allowed for missionaries…. what followed was an arguement between us of why they were or weren’t allowed, but what we found out about 10 minutes into the conversation was that my companion was talking about why Hats weren’t allowed, as my other companion was talking about how Umbrellas weren’t allowed, and while I was completely confused about the original question about sunglesses…. we all laughed for a good minute and realized that all three weren’t allowed… haha
Memories: We’ve really been making great strides with our investigators and watching them truly progress and grow!! As we were talking with one of the daughters of Cesar, Maria Del Rosario- she began to tell us how she was scared of moving forward in the Church because everytime she read, or went to Church she thought about her father. She thought about her father and how much she wished she had been baptized when he was alive. After listening to her feelings and her worries, I began to share my testimony…. For me, There are many things that remind me of my Dad in my mission…. Whenever I talk to someone randomly on the street, or think about how excited my Dad was that I was learning Spanish, or how my Dad loved serving anyone and everyone, I am reminded of my Dad…..Throughout my day I have moments where I experience the same thing as Maria- I think of my Dad and remember that he is not here physically with me anymore. But, As I shared with Maria, I don’t think that the purpose of these thoughts are to make us feel pained or sadened because they are no longer with us, instead I think it is a way for us to feel their presence and influence spiritually. To remember that they are with us, and to feel that love and happiness that they feel when we are doing what’s right or doing what they taught us. Everytime Maria opens her scriptures or goes to church, her father is with her… her father is Happy because she is coming closer to him. Likewise, everytime I share the gospel or serve someone, I feel my father with me! As I shared this testimony and thought with Maria I could not deny that it was true!!! I’m so grateful for this knowledge and blessing of the Gospel in my life!!!
I love being a missionary and I feel so blessed to have the opportunity to share the gospel and serve others everyday!!!
Love you all!! !
xoxo

P. S. Thanks for all the photos and update on the family!!! We didn’t have thanksgiving here because nobody really knows what it is…. hahah … but it was a good week! Wow!!!!! I can’t believe it is already december!! Just hang in there with the papers and dirty jobs that dad always did!!! It will get better and It will probably keep you occupied more than you’d think! Mom. You are such an example to me of strength and faith!! You are truly amazing and I feel so blessed to be your daughter!! Things are moving along!!!! we found 10 new investigators this week but we will have to go through and see if any of them can really progress!! Love you so  so so so s oso so much!!!
