Week 17

Hola!

This week in a flash-
“I Love You” – Whenever we walk down the street there are always lots of people that yell things at me because I am a Gringa… normally it’s things like good morning, hello and hi – but sometimes it turns into things like “I love you” and “marry me” Needless to say when I was walking back from institute with our new converts, Rodrigo and Daniel and they heard people yelling I love you!! at us they were a bit confused and then realized that it was because they were with a gringa…. we all laughed about it for awhile
Temple!- This week we got special permission to leave our mission and go to the temple as a zone! It was the best!! Other than a bit of difficulty that comes with stuffing 6 hermanas in one taxi- it was the best! Being in the temple I just felt home! It’s amazing how peaceful you feel when you go to the temple! It was also wonderful because the next night we had the general Womens broadcast and literally every speaker talked about the importance of temples! It’s so true!! In the temple you can just feel God´s love for you so strongly!
Invitations- This past week we had our first lesson with our investigator Lessly! Our lesson went beautifully! – the Spirit was so strong and everything we talked about you could just see Lessly accepting it all! As my companion and I began to talk about our purpose as missionaries – to invite everyone to come unto Christ- it became so apparent to me that I needed to invite Lessly to be baptized. As I started  the baptismal question, the Spirit filled the room- seriously it was so strong- and I could see the excitement in Lessly’s eyes as she said YES! This was the first time that I had really felt the magnitude of this simple invitation- the invitation to follow Christ! After our lesson I talked to my companion and asked her if she had felt the same need to invite Lessly to be baptized. She said that in the lesson she had felt that I was the one who needed to ask Lessly to be baptized- not her! Wow! It is so amazing how in sync we had been in our thoughts and emotions about this small lesson!
Favorite Things- One of the most amazing things in the mission is when one of the people you are teaching tells you that they know the Church is true that God loves them and that we as missionaries have helped them gain this knowledge! Just this happened this past week with Brenda. As we were teaching her she bore a small testimony that she knew that everything we had taught her was true!! Wow! It was so powerful to hear one of our investigators- someone that when we had started our lessons 10 weeks ago had no knowledge of the gospel now has a testimony and a desire to have the gospel in the life of her family.

Hola!

This week really flew by!! It´s getting a bit warmer here but now the weather is a bit mixed up! One day is misty and cold and the next is sunny and beautiful!!! But all around it´s wonderful! I can´t believe I´ve already been in Bolognesi for 2.5 months!!  Here are some of the Highlights!
Dogs here: This past week as we were rushing from appointment to appointment this lady stopped us on the street to talk to us about how she was a member and how she knew of an apartment for us. As we were listening to this random woman giving us all this random information, all the sudden a heard a woman yell at me “That dog is peeing on your leg” as soon as I heard this I felt exactly what she was talking about…. But it was too late…. a dog had totally peed all over my leg!!!! It was awful, but also extremely hilarious… My comp and I couldn´t stop laughing….
Anticucho: I love how the foods here have really great names that hide what you are actually eating…. for example… anticucho. sounds fun right? haha well actually.. it is cow heart! haha but other than the fact that it´s a little chewy it is actually pretty good!
La Expiacion : The Atonement: WOW! this week my companion and I have been really focusing on teaching the Docterine of Christ and the Atonement. One amazing moment was when we were teaching Walter- the father of Rodrigo and Daniel! Walter has recieved the lessons from other missionaries but because of his family background- his whole family is really catholic- he had decided against baptism and this was our first time teaching him! And WOW.It was such a blessing from the Lord that Daniel and Rodrigo had forgotten about our appointment and Walter was home and willing to listen! The spirit was so so so strong! It´s incredible when you think of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ- you can´t help but feel immense gratitude and love for our savior!!
Rescatas: In our mission, we´ve been putting a lot of emphasis in “rescuing” inactive members that live in our area! One of the less active members we have been working with for the past 8 weeks is a 70 year old man named Fidencio. The first time we visited him was awful- he made fun of my spanish and was all around rude about our message. But as we kept visiting him he has completely changed… enserio it´s incredible how the gospel changes people!!! Now fidencio is my Peruvian Grandpa!!! He is so excited about everytime we come to visit him and went out and bought a new Bible and Book of Mormon to read “Every night.” It´s so wonderful to see how a stubborn 70 year old man who has been refusing the missionaries for years… finally accepted us to remind him of the importance of the gospel of Jesus Christ in his life!
Hope you all have a fabulous week!!! Keep smiling always!
Love you tons!!!

One more funny story,

haha this week one of my investigators asked if I was pregnant and started laughing and called me a gordita!!! It was pretty funny because the next day i was talking about how I had a headache and one of the members that was with us said that it was probably a lack of calories because I´m just really skinny…. hahaha is there not a happy medium?!?!? hahah I thought that was pretty funny!

Baptism

Baptism

baptism of Rodrigo and Daniel

baptism of Rodrigo and Daniel

Rodrigo and Daniel

Rodrigo and Daniel

Hola familia!!!

Ahhh this week was my first real baptism!!! Rodrigo and Daniel were finally baptized after investigating the church for 6 months with their family!!! The baptism was wonderful! Daniel and Rodrigo were wearing their finest and even though their mom and dad couldn`t make it because they were traveling for work, they felt the love and support of our ward family!! It was also really exciting because our president gave permission to two of the other hermanas who had taught them during their 6 months as investigators- they were so excited to see them and sincerely thanked every one of us for our lessons!!! I will never forget watching each of them following the example of Christ and being baptized by immersion, through the preistood- the power for a man to act in the name of God! I will also never forget that after Rodrigo was baptized he turned and looked straight at me and my companion and gave us the biggest grin and waved his hands in excitement!!!! ahhhhh I was so happy during the whole baptism I couldn`t stop smiling… seriously everyone kept talking about how I was exuding happiness!!! Sunday was just as amazing when Daniel and Rodrigo recieved the gift of the Holy Ghost!! The spirit was so strong and in each of their confirmations the bishop talked specifically about serving missions!!! ahhh I honestly cannot wait for Daniel and Rodrigo to serve missions and share their testimonies and help bring others the light that they have found during their 6 months of lessons!!!

Service! This week we had an opportunity to help move a family in our ward!! Almost all the elders in our zone came to help and some hermanas came too!! While the elders moved the furniture, the hnas packed up the stuff in the kitchen… and wow let me tell you kitchens are nasty.

Investigators: This week my comp and I had a super sweet experience with one of our investigators – Yanina! Yanina has been coming to church for the past 3 weeks, but every time she comes right after the sacrament—- so it doesn`t cound as an attendance for baptism… so this week we decided to really focus our lesson on the sacrament. As we were teaching our lesson… about to start our conversation about the sacrament…. Yanina began to cry and pointed to a photo in the little panphlet we had given her last week! The photo was of a little girl taking the sacrament…. Yanina was overwhelmed with the memories of when she had taken the sacrament as a child and how important it was to her!!! WOW! sometimes the Lord knows what our investigators need before we do!! It was so crazy and wonderful and spiritual to know that My companion and I are never alone in lessons, we always have the Spirit and the hand of the lord guiding us in what we teach and how we teach it!!

Love you all so so much and hope all is well!!!

week 14 letter

Wow… another week passes and here are the highlights!!!!
Why I Hate Birds- For those of you who know, I really don’t like birds! But they are everywhere here!! During one of our lessons we were sitting on the side of the road teaching one of our newer investigators. As she started to open up about her life and her struggles- on the verge of tears- a bird just pooped right on my companion! Because I was facing my companion and the investigator was looking at me I had to fight back laughter!! It was sooo hard because I didn’t completely understand everything she was saying- so it was hard to focus-, and secondly, the expression of my companion was priceless. Mondongo-  Normally I love the food of our penncionista but this week she cooked something a bit more exotic. As I began to eat our lunch I began to get a little confused, and a bit worried. I couldn’t exactly tell what it was…. a vegetable… a part of a chicken…. But needless to say it was chewy and slimy and was not my favorite…. turns out mondongo is cow stomach skin…. so yeah that’s awesome
CCM comes to Bolognesi- Wow!!! It was such a flashback to have the CCM come to my area for their practice pros.!! It was also such an adventure… first off when the secretary arrived to open the chapel for us the secretary entered the wrong code and so the alarm began blaring…. and let me tell you our alarm is LOUD. About a minute after the alarm was set off the Bus of Elders arrived from the CCM… it was such perfect timing! I was laughing so hard I almost cried!! All the missionaries that came to our area were elders… North American Elders!!! haha it was so funny how all of them were so interested in how long I had been out and how well my spanish was! haha it also made me realize how far my spanish has really come!! When our bishop welcomed all of the Elders to our barrio they couldn’t understand anything and I had to translate the number of the hymn because all of the elders were so confused!! It was also so strange to have so many Gringos walking around my area! One of my favorite moments was when we saw one of the new elders sharing his testimony to the son of one of our investigators. His words were so broken and you could tell he was so nervous but the spirit was so strong and it made me think back to my first weeks in the mission and in peru. Its crazy how much you feel the spirit working through you all the time when you can’t really speak the language! That is one thing that you forget when you start to progress in the language… how much the Lord helped you say what you needed to say and how full of the spirit your words were!!
Miracles!! Wow we witnesses so many miracles this week! First off last p-day Hna. Guelet left her wallet in the resturant that we had eaten lunch in. After about an hour of shopping we realized her wallet – with all of her mission money, credit card, and debit card – was not in her bag!!! We ran back to the resturant… with the knowledge that it was probably gone… I mean we live in Lima!! But when we arrived her wallet was on the ground- untouched, nothing was missing.
Second- Last sunday we had a super sweet lady who had found information about the church and had come to church alone! But after on of our classes she disappeared- and all we had was her name! No information!!! Every day my comp and I have been praying that she would come back this week!!! Our Prayers were answered!!!! Lessly came to church again and brought her mom!!! We got her information and have an appointment for this week!!! It’s crazy how the hand of the lord is in each of our lives!!!!
Love you all so much!!! Have a fabulous week!!! If you have time read Ether 12 verse 4. This has been hna. Guelet and I’s favorite scripture this cambio and I just LOVE IT!!!

Week 13

Wow! This week really flew by!!! Here are some of the highlights:

Celebrities with Badges: It´s so funny how everyone in our neighborhood knows who the missionaries are and love to wave and say hello! haha My companion and will just be walking and some person we´ve never seen before will start waving and shouting: misioneras! misioneras! my companion and I always wave and pretend like we know who they are! haha
Noche De Hogar: One thing I´ve learned this week is the importance of members!! This week we had a Family home Evening with one of our menos activos and invited some members of the ward. What was meant to be one hermana to accompany us for our lesson turned into 6 members, an apple pie, and inka cola. We talked about the importance of attending Church and how your ward is your family! I know this is true!! The love and support I felt in that room was amazing and it made me so grateful that these members could see the need for this single mother to feel supported and loved.
Feliz Cumpleaños! This past Sunday was the Birthday of one of our investigators: Rodrigo! He turned 19!! Wooo!!! For his birthday we gave him a Preach My Gospel and a Study Journal to record his thoughts about the Church!!! He was so excited and keeps talking about how he wants to serve a mission someday! He and his brother are so excited for their baptisms and every lesson we teach my companion and I can feel their testimonies growing!!!
Investigators: This week my companion and I got to hear so many stories of faith, struggles, and desires to follow the Lord. Each experience and each person left a lasting impression on me and the importance of this gospel. Because in every struggle and every challenge, we have the knowledge of our loving father in heaven and the ability to find support in the sacrifice of our Savior.
I love this work and love these people!!! Every day I´m filled with gratitude in the ability I have to teach and be taught!
Sending my love,
Hna. Hansen
