Week 12

Hola Familia!!!

This week was cambios but thankfully I got to stay with my trainer in my barrio for at least one more transfer!! Wooo!!! This week disaster struck when I broke my record of never stepping in the countless mounds of poop in the roads… it was forsure a sad day when I looked down from my agenda and realized what was on my foot!!! ahhh needless to say it was a sad moment… haha but here are the highlights for the week!
English happenings: It´s so funny how people always want to speak English to me!! – because most of the time it is just random phrases or comments. For instance today: my comp and I ran into an old investigator of the Hermanas before us, after talking about where we were from, he then began to sing an entire backstreet boys song in English – accompanied with some dance moves. hahah my comp and I were trying so hard not to start dying laughing!!! haha but honestly it happens all the time!
Reunion: This week we had our multi-zonal meeting where we got to listen to our president and various other leaders in the zones surrounding Lima. It was so wonderful!! Our President really focused his comments on the Atonement : the sacrifice Jesus Christ made for Us – and why it is central in every part of our lives and work as missionaries!! It´s actually amazing when you think about it, that Jesus Christ suffered every sickness and pain, for US!
Spanish Dreams: As some of you may know I have a tendency to talk in my sleep! For the past few weeks my companion has been telling me that I just talk all night in English…. haha but this past week it changed! My companion told me that I have been talking in Spanish!! Haha its so crazy! I never thought my subconcious would be speaking spanish too!! hahah
Investigators:This week was great with investigators and lessons! One funny moment was with this woman we´re teaching Elena! We´ve been teaching her for awhile now and she has progressed so much! She loves the gospel and truly has faith in Jesus Christ, however she hates getting up early and so when we asked her if she wanted to get baptized she said sure- but only in January when our Church time changes from 8:30 to 10:30 hahaha!!! She didn´t come to church last week, but we´ll see if maybe she is willing to make a little sacrifice!
All in all Peru is wonderful and my companion is the best!! We are always cracking ourselves up and loving the lessons that we have and the investigators we have the ability to teach!!
 Love you all!!!
Hermana Hansen
P.S. if you have time this week read Alma 5:33 — I just love this scripture!!!! I just love the picture it gives us of Christ reaching out his arms to every single one of us!!!

This week has flown by!!! Here are some updates

Coffeeee- aduring our lesson of the Word of WisdomI nstead of saying cafe (the spanish word for coffee) I said Coffee in a spanish accent…Everyone laughed and it was just one of those spanish-english moments hah

Navidad? – This week my companion and I haqve been constantly thinking about Christmas!! Because it’s winter here, every morning I wake up thinking that it’s december and that Christmas is in a few days!! Because of this we have been singing lots of songs in our lessons…. haha at first the investigators are a little confused but then I explain how in the US christmas is in winter and they they agree to sing it in my honor! haha

P-Day- This past P-day was the best!! My companion and I got special permission to opt out of our zone activity- sports- and attend a museum in our area… a museum of Chocolate!!! haha we got to taste test chocolates and see how they make chocolate in a short little tour. haha I almost bought chocolate with cocaine in it…. because I thought it was coconut…. but my companion swiftly told me that it wasn’t what I thought it was…..
Then we went to the beach! and walked through the older, more touristy area of our barrio… the part that we are never in! We took some pictures by the beach and enjoyed the view of some of Lima!!

Prayers are answered! – Wow! The Lord truly knows what you need and when you need it!! I’ve been making great strides in my spanish and my teaching skills. But, this week after a few investigators and members made fun of my accent and spanish in my lessons I was feeling a little lost and a little in need of a revival- of goals and purpose!! So in this momenbt I prayed for an intercambio. I just needed a change of scene and also an evaluation- someone to talk to about what I could do better on and also what I did well on! And guess what…. the next morning I got a phone call- Intercambios with Hna. Shill! My prayers were answered!!!! This intercambio was everything I needed at this moment! I was able to refocus on my purpose, set goals, and speak in English for a whole DAY! haha It was wonderful!!!! Sometimes we just need to ask for help and realize that we need time to recharge, reset, and reevalute .. and when we do, we become so much stronger!!!

Investigators- The Law of Chastity Strikes again!!!! ahhh After talking with one of the Friends of Brenda we discovered that Brenda and her “husband” are not married!!! ahhh This means that in order for Brenda to get baptized the 13 of Sept. they will have to get married first!!! Even with this reality my comp and I are trying to stay positive because this family is so special to us and everytime we return we feel the countance of Brenda and her daughters changing! It’s true…. Brenda and her daughters were literally glowing in our last lesson!!! I just want this family to be baptized so badly!! We know that the 13 of September may not be a reality, but our desire for this family is more than just a date, we want their family to be able to live together for eternity!!! ahhh

This week has really taught me of the great connection I have developed for each of the individuals that we have taught!!! Each time we have a lesson, Each time we pray for them I grow to love them more and more!!! This is probably what people mean when they say that they Love the People. Because when you teach a person the gospel and put your heart and soul in every lesson- and therefore share spiritual experiences together, you grow to truly love and appreciate them!!!

Give someone a compliment today and keep smiling,

Yes! but we never see the beach!!! P.S: I AM STILL NOT SICK!!! hallelujah!!! Please incluede that in my letter!!

TRUFA!! basically a cake pop..Peru had them first.. honestly so good!

Hola!!!

This week really flew by! I only have my subject title as “yo soy un milagro” because I haven´t been sick (as in from food sick) at all! Which in Peru is a MIRACLE…. I´ve waited this long to write this because I haven´t wanted to jinx it! But every day my companion is blown away that I haven´t had a malo stomach yet! haha

There´s a Thumb in my Soup! : haha actually there was a whole foot… a chicken foot. Ahh at first when I saw it I figured that it was simply for flavoring and there was no way that I would have to really touch the thing.. but as our lunch progressed our penncionista motioned to the foot and remarked at how it is the best part! I tried to do my best to make it look like I was really enjoying the chicken foot… but in reality the slimy ligaments were not my fav.

Investigadores!! : AH this week was an amazing week of teaching and getting to really know and love our investigators!!! Brenda (The family I told you about in my last email) Came to church for the 3rd week in a row and Brenda and her daughter have a date set to be baptized on the 13th of Sept.!!! Ahh I´ve so excited!! One quick story about Brenda´s fecha: After our lesson with Brenda my comp told me the strangest thing happened to her when she extended the date… she thought to say August 30 but Sept 13 came out…. after thinking about it we realized that it was a total sign that her Husband should have the opportunity to be baptized on the same day as her! I really hope this actually happens because honestly I will cry when this family is baptized together! Our other progressing investigators is a family the missioneras have been teaching for months! They have three sons ages 19-18-15 so it is so fun to teach them! We haven´t been teaching their father at all bu we´ve been having lots of lessons with the mother and the sons! All three of the sons have a date set to be baptized on the 30th of August and each lesson with them I can feel their excitement grow!!! The lessons with them are always so fabulous and this week they even asked my comp and I to bring them a copy of Preach my Gospel because they are thinking about missions after their baptisms!!! ahhhh it makes me so excited to think that Rodrigo and Daniel could be missionaries in a year or so!

In Language Limbo: This week I have made great strides in my spanish! I finally have a personality again!!! wooo!!! Haha but seriously! I have had the opportunity to share personal experiences and different portions of lessons I have never been able to before!!! However, my mind is still transistioning entonces I still have random english words come out when I´m trying to speak spanish and spanish words when I´m trying to speak English. This week I had a short interview with the President because I was in the Office waiting for my comp to get her migracion papers. The President asked me to offer a prayer and naturally I thought… oh I´ll say it in English! As I got to the middle of my prayer in English, The words no longer came to me and I was forced to finish out my prayer in spanish!!! I couldn´t believe it!!!! hahah Praying in English was now difficult… not Spanish!!!

Cambios! This week I had intercambios with the Hermanas in San Juan Miraflores so I had the opportunity to spend a day with a different comp in a completely different area!!! It was so fun to see how different each barrio really is. and also how attatched I´ve become to my barrio!!! I love Bolognesi and the members and the investigators and my companion!!! It´s all become my home!!! Going to San Juan was great, but just made me realize how hard it will be when I have to leave my first area!!!

I´m Naked: The worst thing happened to me this past week! I FORGOT MY BADGE one day!Luckily it was just when we have meetings with our zone so we weren´t teaching lessons, but it was horrible!!! I felt so naked without it!! It made me realize how much my calling is a part of me. I love being a missionary and talking to people about the blessings of the gospel and how much they are loved by their Father in Heaven!!! And even though I can´t say everything I want to and I don´t always conjugate my verbs correctly I feel the spirit every day and I know my investigators and the people we teach can feel it too!!

have the best week ever!!!! Read Ether 12 and keep smiling!! !

Love you all!!!

Week 9

Wow, this week has flown by! Seriously! Here are some highlights from this week-

Just Ask! This week we had a lot of appointments and a lot of cancelations! Therefore, it was also a lot of walking and trying to find different houses, people, and appointments! One night in specific, we were looking for the house of a Less Active member who we were visiting because our other appointment had fallen through. We had been there before and thought we knew where we were going, but we soon figured out that we were lost. We were just walking aimlessly around the same streets and it felt hopeless. In this moment I said a little prayer- please let us find her house soon! About 2 minutes after this Moto Taxi drove by and yelled at us. We waved but mostly ignored it because we never know if we actually know them or it is just some guy pointing out a Gringa. Then the same Moto Taxi drove by again shouting * Hermanas! You’re looking for my mom’s house.. right? I’ll take you there! Right away we were off, and even though the member wasn’t home, it was still a short, sweet answer to a simple need.

Mountains! … of rice- Our regular pencionista has been in the US for the past 2 weeks and so we’ve had a replacement pencionist, and can I just say my comp and I are SO excited for her to come home!! Our new pencionista has this thing with rice… 90% of the plate is rice and the other 10% is actually food… seriously… my comp and I are just trying to make it through the week! But Peruvian food is really good! It’s a lot of rice, potatos, chicken, lentils, and mayonaise (Really) . They put that stuff on everything! Because right now is winter we drink a lot of hot herbal drinks… my favorite is agua with piña! it is so good! We also drink a lot of Ecco… it is this powder stuff that tastes like what I would imagine coffee tastes like- I didn’t like it at first, but with tons of sugar it’s good!

American Food! This week I introduced my companion to the Cinnamon roll at… Cinnabon! They have one in the mall here! haha I also made pancakes one morning with Nutella! It felt so good to eat some American food… but I still haven’t come accross a waffle iron … =(

Restoration- This week we had an awesome lesson with a family that we have been teaching for the past 2 weeks! We watched a short video on Joseph Smith and the Restoration! At first I was chuckling to myself about how cheesy the video was, but then I really focused on the message of the video and wow – the spirit was so strong! I then shared my experience of when I knew the Book of Mormon Was true and it went amazing! My words just flowed and I felt the Spirit so strong! Ah! I love talking about The Book of Mormon, because just reading one verse, or testifying of it’s power brings the spirit immediately!

Training- This week we had training in San Juan with our President! It went great! I even did a practice lesson in front of everyone- all the new missionaries in training. It went great and I feel as if my spanish is improving! Woo!

All in all it was a fabulous week filled with struggles and also excitement,

Best,
