Sister Hansen,

Here is a letter that your daughter asked us to send to you.

Please allow me to tell you what a wonderful daughter you have.  She has been an outstanding missionary, always so positive and happy.  She has been such a positive influence every where she has served and has blessed so many with her leadership and training.   Sister Lunt and I have really enjoyed getting to know her.

Sincerely,

ELDER LUNT

From Hannah
Wow!  I cannot believe this is the last letter I will be sending home as a full time missionary.
These past 18 months have gone by too fast!! As I began to look back on my mission I began to realize how much I have learned and how much I’ve changed.  I haven’t just learned how to speak Spanish or eat every part of a chicken’s body.  I haven’t just grown to love rice (in every meal) or be accustomed to riding like sardines in Lima’s public transporation.
Be more importantly I’ve learned what the Gospel of Jesus Christ really is,  I’ve felt the Atonement working in my life and the lives of others.  I’ve come to understand that Christ suffered and died for us becuase he loves us and because he wants us to be happy.  He has felt every sickness, pain and suffering- he knows how we feel in the most difficult of moments.  I know because I’ve felt His love and His guidance.  I’ve been comforted and lifted up on more than one occasion.
I love being able to testify of Christ each day—I love being able to see how the gospel of Jesus Christ changes lives.  I’ve come to understand that happiness can come from many things but the joy you feel from the Gospel of Jesus Christ is something different.  The hope that comes from the knowledge, that because of Jesus Christ, we can live with our families forever is something that brings peace.
In these last 18 months this hope to live with my family forever has transformed into something I know—something I trust will happen.  I know that I will return to see my father someday.  I know that this life is not the end and because Jesus Christ was resurrected each of us will be resurrected.  I trust that all unjust things will be healed through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.  Each time I’ve shared my testimony it has grown.
I’ve felt a strong confirmation, a sweet joy that I can’t deny that these things are true.  I can’t imagine my life without the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  I can’t imagine my life with these experiences  I’ve had in Peru.
I know the Lord has a plan for each of us, that even though my 18 months is ending, my time to be a disciple of Christ is just beginning.  Mosiah 16:9
Love you all so much!!

Wow! This week went by faster than most! Here’s a rundown of what happened!
Families in the street!- Okay, so about 2 weeks ago my companions and I contacted a super-cute family in the street! They were great but they didn’t want to give us their contact information and even though they were a bit stand-offish, they were super friendly. As we walked away from the contact, my companions and I felt bad that we hadn’t been able to get their info. But as we were walking away a thought came to my mind…. if we are meant to teach them the Lord will put them in our path again…. and that is exactly what happened yesterday! As we were walking through our area we saw the same family!!! Obviously we contacted them, and they were notably impressed that we had run into one another once more. This time they gave their information to us right away and we have an appointment to go visit them this week! It was a true testimony to me that the Lord is preparing people, he listens to our prayers, and is guiding us in each moment!
Marriage Proposals!- This week we had an awesome lesson with Gladys and Nicolas. We decided to base our lesson on “The Family: A Proclamation to the World” to help them realize the importance of families and marriage. Nicolas and Gladys have been living together for 10 years!! Gladys told us that she has never had desires to get married, and she still didn’t really understand the point of it all. To respond to her doubts we began to read a few paragraphs of the proclamation. As we read we could see Gladys was beginning to understand, She explained that she had never thought it was so important to God that we have families based on the vows of marriage. We then explained that through marriage our families can be sealed together forever, we can literally live with our families even after this life. The Spirit was so strong and I began to think about how grateful I am that my parents decided to be married and sealed for all eternity. That all my life I could witness, and see an amazing example of what temple marriage is and how it can bless our lives. As we invited Nicolas and Gladys to get married the cutest thing happened… Nicolas turned to Gladys said her full name and asked for her hand in marriage…. she accepted and they gave each other a little kiss! Ah it was such a sweet moment and truly was a little miracles!! I can only imagine how Nicolas’s son, whose serving a mission in Columbia,  will feel today when he receives the email that his parents are engaged!
I Love this work and I feel so blessed to have this amazing calling! I know the Lord is preparing people each day and I know that through our small actions we can truly make a difference!
Love you all!

Hannah will be home December 1, SFO
Hola Familia!

This week was amazing!! Here is a little highlight of the week!!…
Finding a Family!- This week my companions and I went to find a reference that I had received in my email last week! Irene had come in contact with the missionaries in her mother’s house. Her mom had been baptized about a year ago and she had seen the changes and the help her mother had received from the church- wanting this change in her own life, she had given her information to the misisonaries! When we arrived at her house, we also invited her husband to join us for the lesson. After waiting for what seemed like forever, her husband finally arrived and we were able to meet Alex. At first Alex seemed a little bit more difficult- with his arms covered in tattoos and his face with an expression of ” I’m not interested” my companions and I were praying that the Spirit could touch his heart. Our first lesson with them was great- They both had great desires to follow Christ and even with their 1 year old son… who is the most noisy, crazy child I have ever seen… they were able to commit to reading The Book of Mormon. It was super funny because Irene told us that she was going to follow in this path one way or another and if Alex wanted to follow her that would be his choice… a bit caught off guard Alex affirmed that he was with her and he wanted this for his family too! So when we asked Alex to say the prayer at the end of the lesson, he agreed. As we all kneeled together to pray there was a sweet Spirit in his prayer… as he finished he shared with us that it was the first prayer he had ever offered in his life! Wow! Nothing compares with seeing a father kneel with his family for the first time in his life and humbly ask for help and guidance in his life and the life of his family! This sweet spirit only continued in our next lesson… they had read the chapter we had left in the Book of Mormon and as we taught the restoration they were able to listen and comprehend despite the noises of their little earthquake of a child. And as Alex knelt for the second time in his life to offer another closing prayer, we were able to see him smile! We could see something different in his face- happiness. Alex told us that while reading the Book of Mormon and praying, he had felt like it had “filled him up”, he had felt a peace and comfort. For me this was an amazing miracle. That someone who at first was so standoffish could later be the one asking us when we could come back for another lesson! That he could be the one praying and wanting to act and learn more! They even went to church on Sunday!
I’m so grateful that we were able to find this family that the Lord has been preparing. I know that there are people waiting to hear this restored gospel and I feel so blessed for the opportunity I have to teach and love them! I love being a missionary. I love testifying of Christ! I love seeing how the gospel of Jesus Christ Changes lives!!!
Love you all!

Loved seeing the photos!!! Looks like everyone is doing great!!! I will be using the southwest card to purchase whatever I will use! I will be paying you back after!! ahh that is so crazy that ellie is due so soon and that thanksgiving is next week! … even stranger is that I will be able to tell you to save me some stuffing….

You’re so right. it’s so strange to think that the mission is coming to an end. I’m trying not to think about it much and its actually wonderful because we are working so hard I don’t have to distract myself too much! I will totally write down my testimony so I never forget it! lately I’ve been writing a lot more in my journal… getting kind of sentimental and all!
thanks for your letters each week! I cherish them!!!! LOVE YOU SO MUCH!!!

Hola Familia!

This week was a bit rough, but also filled with miracles and great moments! Ah I just love being a missionary!  Here is a rundown of the week….
Leadership Council!- Ah this week was my last leadership council! It was such a blessing because I got to see lots of my companions who are serving outside of Lima! The thing that impacted me the most was seeing Hermana Ramirez who I trained when I was at the beginning of my mission. I still remember going to pick her up on her first day in the mission and and now she has a year! We both couldn’t believe how fast the time has gone by… how fast the mission flies. It’s so amazing to see how she has become such a great leader and example in the mission! ahh! I also got to see my other “hija” Hermana Haupt!! It was so great to catch up while also listening to the new council from our president!
Familia Ticona.- Quick update on the amazing Ticona Family! This Sunday for the first time ever Maria came with her husband Christian!!! It was amazing to see Chrstian acting and exercising his faith! He enjoyed the meetings and even though he ended up getting stuck in nursery for a bit… he enjoyed the snacks haha and said he’ll be coming back next week! They are still talking about a marriage date, but I know with all of my heart that one day they will be an eternal family! And even though I may not be here to see it all unfold, I feel blessed that I get to be here to help them in this amazing process!!
Miracle! – This week was a bit rough at first because we had not found new investigators all week! It was 7:00 Sunday night, and we still had not found anyone! But it came to our minds to visit a less active, Nicolas, who lives with his girlfriend who is not a member. To our surprise they were there and for the first time ever, his girlfriend, Gladys, decided to listen! Our lesson was great and we were able to see that Gladys has true desires to receive answers about the church and do what she can to have an eternal family!  ahhh it was such a miracle to us that we were able to find a new family to teach! My companions and I left the lesson grateful and estatic that we had been able to witness a miracle … that the Lord had helped us when we had done all we could!
The Power of a Testimony- Juan is such an amazing investigator. In each lesson we can see his faith growing! This past week we had the opportunity to teach the Plan of Salvation! As we were testifying of eternal families Juan looked straight at me and asked me “do you really believe that this plan is true?” I responded with a quick yes and then began to explain, why or how I know. I told him that I believe every person has experiences in their lives that help them realize that the Lord has a plan for each of us, for me this realization happened recently. I had learned about the Plan of Salvation from a young age and I had believed it. I believed that my family could live together forever. But when my father passed away about a year ago, the plan became much more personal and meaningful. It was no longer my family can be together forever. But it was I know my family will be together forever if I do my part. I know I will see my father again. I know I will be able to see my parents together again. I know it! And for me my answer or confirmation of this plan comes each time I teach it! Each time I testify of this wonderful future our Heavenly Father has prepared for us! Each time I testify of Eternal families I feel this burning confirmation in my heart that it is true and that my dad is there waiting for me! …. as I shared this experience and my testimony with Juan the Spirit filled the room…. it was so powerful it just hit you. It was such a tender mercy to me that I was able to share my testimony with Juan in this moment. As this past week was the year mark of my father’s passing, sharing this testimony helped me realize how much this Plan is a part of my life and helped me remember that because of Jesus Christ “there is no more death”
I love this work and I know the Lord blesses us when we do our part! I testify that the Lord has a plan for each of us! I love this work and I love this gospel!!
love you all!!

(response from my letter)
awwww it looks like the perfect way to remember such an amazing father and friend! My emotions too are all over the place… it feels so weird that a year ago our lives changed for good… I also think that remembering dad’s passing at this moment when I only have a few weeks left is also really hard because I feel like here in the mission … that is my life and I feel the help and guidence of Dad often. I love being a missionary and I feel so blessed to be with these companions at this time… the Lord truly knows what we need when we need it and I testify that is 100 percent true! I will make sure to write my testimony as I know this time in my life is when I had the chance to focus 100% on my relationship with the Lord. I feel so grateful for these 17 months that I’ve had and the 3 weeks I have left!

Love you so much!

ps I was thinking it would be fun to buy something for all of the hermanas in the mission as like a christmas present…. Is it okay if I use your card and pay you back! I just know lots of missionaries don’t recieve things for christmas and it would be cheaper to buy here and give to my companions to send around christmastime!
love you so much!

Hola Familia!

Wow! This week went by so fast!! Heres a rundown of what happened this week!!
Familia Ticona! – The Familia Ticona was a family that the hermanas that were here before us had been teaching on and off for the last month. As we prepared to get to know the family… reading their teaching record… my companions and I were a bit worried about teaching the father… the hermanas had said he was a bit “cold.” However in our first lesson the father, Christian, opened up to us. Shared his doubts, concerns and desires to have an eternal family. The Spirit was so strong and we could truly see the Spirit working through him! Each lesson since then we have come to build an amazing relationship with this family. Even though Christian speaks sternly, he’s becoming to understand there are many blessings his family can receive through the restored gospel. He’s also hilarious. He says what is on his mind- flat out. This has created many great moments in our lessons…. One of my favorite lessons with them happened last week. As we talked about Joseph Smith and the first vision, we began to testify of eternal families. That because of the authority of God that has been restored upon the earth we can be with our families forever. As we explained this incredible truth, we could see Maria and Christian change. We could see them come to understand the importance of having an eternal family.  Like many families in Peru, Maria and Christian aren’t married. And as we talked about how marriage is the first step to having this eternal family…. Christian, as always, weighed in. He told us he had never thought of marriage as important, but now he understood. Now he wanted to make this change in his life. Even though they are still talking about a marriage date, this lesson was a miracle for me. That this wonderful family could understand some of the steps they need to take to become an eternal family! That is really what this life is about. Having eternal families…. doing all we can here, so we can be together there…. in the kingdom of heaven.
I love this work! I feel so blessed to be here with my two amazing companions! I am learning so much from each of them! We truly have a blast together and I feel so lucky to be with them here in this area at this time! We’re getting to know the area a little more, but we still get lost once a day! haha we’ve truly begun to rely more on the Spirit and we’ve truly begun to see the hand of the Lord in our lives each day!
I love being a missionary. I love testifying that families are forever!
Love you all!

My Companions!!

My Companions!!

A big switch up from the dirt roads of Ayacucho!!

A big switch up from the dirt roads of Ayacucho!!

WOW! this week has been crazy!! Here’s an update!!

New Companions!- Woo! This week I received my new companion Hermana Molina! She is from Chile and is seriously the cutest thing. She totally reminds me of a chilean disney princess! She has such a strong testimony and every time she shares her testimony in lessons the Spirit is so strong! It’s also been great because I’m still with Hermana Esser! I think I win the prize for having the most trios in the mission, but I also have lucked out in each one!
Opening Area!- Wow! for those of you who know what opening an area is, know it is difficult. Mostly because my sense of directions is awful but also because you don’t have that base with the members or investigators that you normally have when you come into a new area. Even with these struggles my companions and I are having a blast and seeing miracles. Even though we get lost at least once a day- we’ve really come to know one another and we truly enjoy our time together! We’ve also had wonderful experiences being led by the Spirit and seeing the hand of the Lord directing us to people who are being prepared to hear the gospel!
Lima! – Okay, Lima is a whole new culture for me! I’d gotten so used to dirt floors and people taking their pigs for a walk that walking down these paved roads kinda caught me off guard! It’s so funny because Hermana Esser and I are always shocked with how beautiful the houses are here and how there aren’t mamitas walking through the streets! We’re also getting used to a huge ward! Seriously, there are so many wonderful members and so many wonderful programs and activities through our ward! We even had refreshments after our ward council…. that’s a first!
Miracles!- Our miracle this week was finding a new investigator named Juan! The hermanas who were in our area before left his name written on the whiteboard in our room and not knowing anything about him made an appointment to visit him! As we began the lesson we found out that his wife was an inactive member and after years of hearing about the church he finally had the desire to receive his own answers. It was amazing because our 2 lessons with him this past week were extremely short- but also filled with the Spirit! We could truly see the Holy Ghost working within us and helping Juan to recognize the answers to his prayers! When we invited him to be baptized, he expressed to us the real desires he has to take this step and be an example to his wife and his son! He accepted a baptism date and committed to doing all he can to receive answers to his prayers. It was a truly remarkable moment for me because after days of getting lost, not having lessons, and walking trying to find people to teach…. the Lord blessed us with this tender mercy. Someone who is so willing to accept the Savior in his life. And someone who truly has the desire to follow the example of Jesus Christ! It made me remember that when we do our part, the Lord helps us do what we can’t do alone. The Lord blesses us with tender mercies and miracles! —- we just need to notice them!
I love being here in Peru. I love being a missionary! I love seeing how the gospel changes lives everyday! I feel so blessed to have the opportunity to serve in this time with these people and I know the Lord is guiding me in each moment!
Love you all!!

Wow! This week has been Crazy! Here’s an update!

Cambios!- This week I received the dreaded call of Cambios! After six months in Ayacucho…I was changed to the Zone Chorrillos …. the same Zone where I started my mission!!!! ahhhh I will be serving in La Campiña and will be in a trio with Hermana Esser and a new missionary! That’s right, I will be training again and Hermana Esser will be my companion again! So CRAZY! We will be opening the area so I’m totally relying on the spirit to help me with my total lack of direction- skills!
Family Mitma- This week was especially hard because I had to say goodbye to the many families that I have grown to know and love! One such family was the Family Mitma. When I arrived in Mariscal, the mitma family wasn’t attending church and didn’t have too much interest in talking or visiting with us. But as we continued visiting them and serving them in any way we could, we began to build a relationship with each one of them. They began to attend church and keep their commitments to read the Book of Mormon and Pray as a family. Little by little we could see their faith growing and their testimonies growing! This past week as we taught about temples and the blessings of having an eternal family, the Spirit filled the room and my companion and I were moved by the Love we felt for this family. After our lesson the family thanked my companion and I for helping them remember their goal to have an eternal family. And for helping them come back to the church. It truly was a testimony builder to me that the work of salvation is not only for those that don’t know the gospel, but all members everywhere!
Yolanda!- This week my companion and I witnessed a miracle! For the past 2 months we have been teaching an investigator named Yolanda! Even though she has always been very receptive, she has never been firm in her decision to be baptized. After countless lessons on baptism and the importance it has in our lives, we finally saw the Spirit working within her. When we passed by her house on Sunday she was dressed, ready, and even had prepared her 8 year old son to come too! As we walked to church together she told us that she had made her decision. She wanted to get baptized and she was prepared to make the changes in her life because she knew the gospel was true! My Companion and I were touched by her true desires to follow Christ and her determination to receive the blessings of baptism!
This week was amazing! My companion and I witnessed many miracles- Families coming to church for the first time! A better relationship with the members in our ward. And countless other tender mercies that truly touched our hearts! Saying goodbye to Ayacucho was so hard, but I know that each transfer is done by revelation and the Lord has a great plan for each of us!
Love you all!

Hola Familia!

Wow! This week went by so fast! I cannot believe it is already Monday! This week was filled with hard days, but also amazing miracles!!!
Concilio!- This week was another Leadership Council, so I made the trek to Lima!! The theme of the Council was how we could work better with the members in our ward to find more families to teach! Our president proposed a challenge to each of us….Teach the first vision to active members of the church and strengthen their families while asking for references! It was amazing because after returning back to my area in Ayacucho, my companion and I applied it… and we saw miracles! We decided to visit the family of one of the counselors in the bishopbric. As we taught the First Vision (Joseph Smith’s incredible experience of seeing Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ in a miraculous vision) we felt the need to also share “The Family- A Proclamation to the World!”and talk about the importance that they have as parents to change and improve the world! Even though we didn’t receive any references in that 30 min, we felt that our visit had been inspired. Exactly what they needed in that moment. The true miracle happened the next day in Church when the counselor gave a talk in sacrament and talked about our visit and how it had touched his heart in a critical moment, and when his wife shared her testimony in Relief Society…that she had been praying for help and guidance when we arrived at her house! It’s amazing to me how the Spirit really does work through us to help those who need it!!
Finding a Family!- Last week as we were walking to an appointment we felt the need to contact a family who was walking our direction! As we contacted them we were amazed to discover that years ago they had listened to the missionaries and were happy to receive us in their home! When we arrived in the home of Georgina and Ronald the Spirit was so strong it was incredible. And as we sang “Families Can Be Together Forever” an even stronger Spirit of love and happiness filled the room! I felt as if I had met them before, I felt as if I knew this family! As we taught the Restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ we were stunned by their want to find out for themselves if this message was true! Even more amazing were their children- David and Nisha. Nisha, due to an accident that happened when she was a baby, lost the ability to hear…. and even with this inability to hear our words, I could see a light shining in her eyes. I could see her flipping through the pages of the Book of Mormon and feeling the power that it possesses. It was one of those lessons where you remember why you are a missionary. It was one of those moments where you truly feel the Love that our Heavenly Father has for his children!
This week was filled with tender mercies such as these. Listening to a father give a prayer kneeling with his family and ending with tears because he was overcome with the Spirit. Contacting an old investigator and finishing the contact testifying that she will see her sisters and her parents(who passed away recently) again. Being able to share my testimony that I know I will see my Father again- I know that my family will be forever. Testifying of the ressurrection to a woman whose sister is dying from cancer and is suffering seeing the pain her sister is experiencing. Each person we found, taught, and served this week was a tender mercy and a sweet reminder to me that I am here for a reason… I am doing the Lord’s work!
I love you all!

This week was crazy!!!
Trio… Again!- This week the companion of Hermana Esser, Hermana Trejo got super sick and they had to send her to Lima. Because she finsishes her mission in 2 weeks, she won’t be coming back to Ayacucho and Hermana Esser has been in trio with us all week! It’s been crazy working in two areas again, and training two hermanas at the same time! But it has also been an amazing learning experience! I love my two companions and together we have seen so many miracles! It’s amazing how the Lord seriously guides you and carries you in times of stress and difficulty!
Velid and Piero! – This week we saw a great miracle, The baptism of two amazing youth! When I was in Garcilazo we had begun teaching Velid and Piero, but they had not been able to be baptized due to their father and his objections to the church. Even though their mother is a member, their father kept them from baptism until just recently. Through some miracle, their father finally gave permission and this last saturday they were both baptized! It was so amazing to me to see how the Lord answers prayers and fasts! After months of waiting they were finally able to enter into this important covenant with their father in heaven! Even more remarkable is that I was there to see it!
Combi for Conference- This Conference was one of the most amazing but also most stressful! Stressful because our Bishop wanted to rent out a bus to bring all of our investigators to conference! It was crazy directing the bus driver and showing up in front of the houses of our investigators and less actives with a giant bus to bring them to the stake center! It was so funny and in the end it was so successful! We truly saw miracles as we were able to bring all of our investigators with baptismal dates and also many less actives and new investigtors to enjoy the words of conference! It truly was a conference of inspired words and personal revelation! I truly know that there are living prophets who recieve revelation specifially for us in these times! I know that the Lord hasn’t stopped communicating with his children- miracles and revelations are real!
I feel so blessed to be here in peru in this time! I know that the Lord knows each one of us and he knows what we need when we need it! I love this work and I love this gospel!!

Hola Familia!

This week was wonderful! My companion and I have been working hard this week to find new people to teach and serve… and as a result we have seen many miracles!!!… we’ve also had many laughs this week!
Here is a rundown of what happened….
Peeping Pug- Okay, so in our shower there is a window that leads to the roof of our apartment building. The first time I ever showered in this apartment I heard a quiet grunting noise and I thought that maybe there was a pig that lived on the roof…. about 2 seconds later the eyes of a pug appeared and I connected the dots. Since this day…. when we turn on the water and get ready to shower, the pug comes just to look at us showering! I’m been trying to get a photo for the past few weeks, and finally I was swift enough to catch him in action! haha
Conference!- This Sunday was the General Women’s broadcast! As we began watching the talks and videos, I began to feel like I had seen this program before… the talks were so similar and the songs practically the same…. after talking to the other hermanas we realized it was the conference from april!!!! ahaha they ended up making an announcement and switching it to the right one…. but it was still funny to see the confusion of everyone in the stake! I loved listening to Elder Bednar’s talk, and reflecting on how this message or this story can truly relate to each one of us in our lives. How can we be happier? How can we find joy each day?… for each person it’s different, but it all begins with Love. Love for others. Love for ourselves. and most importantly Love of the Lord!
Miracles!- This week we found a new investigator named Evelin! Evelin is 19 and has a 8 month old baby boy. In our first lesson it became apparent that she was one of those people that the Lord had been preparing to receive the restored gospel. Her father had abandoned her family at a young age and her mother had passed away about 3 years ago…. she now lives alone with her little baby boy after his father abandoned them as well. As we began to teach about the love of the Savior, and the blessing we have to be cleansed from sin through his great sacrifice, her face lit up. The spirit was so strong, and her desires to find truth and light in her life were so amazing! We could see the light of Christ working within her. She accepted the invitation to be baptized, and Sunday went to church with her son and stayed all three hours!  When we asked her if she was able to read  the chapter we left in The Book Of Mormon, she began to explain the chapter perfectly and told us she had read it two times! I have already begun to see the change in Evelin, I have begun to see how she is beginning to feel the Love that the Savior has for her! I cannot wait to see how this wonderful gospel will continue to bless and change her life!  It is such a testimony builder to me to see how there are people that the Lord is preparing to hear this message of hope and love.
I love this work and know that I am where I am supposed to be!
Love you all!!
